DEWITT MUSEUMOpen May 15th through October 15th, Wednesday-Sunday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

The DeWitt Museum and Prairie City Depot of the Sumpter Valley Railway is located at Main and Bridge Streets and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Depot RV Park is located on the grounds adjacent to the original buildings.

The Sumpter Valley Railway, chartered in 1890, ran from Baker City to Sumpter and connected to Prairie City in 1910. The Museum is housed within the original two-story depot building. The ground floor contains the waiting room, station agent's office, freight room, and baggage and express room.

The second floor provided living quarters for the Station Agent and features antiques and memorabilia from the local area, arranged much as it might have appeared during the agent's family occupied these quarters.

Of special interest is the large collection of rocks and minerals, along with photo albums, collectibles and mining artifacts reflective of life in Grant County at the turn of the century.

The goal of the Depot Museum is to house Oregon's most significant collection of narrow gauge railroad artifacts and historic documents.
DEWITT MUSEUMLocated on the grounds of the Prairie City Depot of the Historic Sumter Valley Railway, Depot RV Park is a perfect camping location for travelers. It is an ideal base camp for visitors to the Strawberry Mountain Wilderness or the John Day River Valley.
